    H I S T O R Y - Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate

    The jurisdiction of Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate, Jodhpur (Hqrs. at Jaipur) extends over the entire state of Rajasthan covering a geographical area of 3.52 Lacs Sq. Kms including 1037 Kms. long international border with Pakistan which extends from Hindumal Kot in Sriganganagar District to Brahamano Ki Dhani in Barmer District.

    Prior to 1989, there were only two mixed Divisions (Customs-cum-Central Excise) i.e. at Sriganganagar and Jodhpur with 6 Preventive Posts i.e. at Anoopgarh, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Chohtan and Phalodi which were entrusted the job of curbing smuggling activities on this border.

     

    Subsequently, due to the alarming rise in the incidence of smuggling and narcotics/drug trafficking, Customs formations in this border were strengthened by creating an office of the Additional Commissioner of Customs at Jodhpur on 30.01.1989 and five Customs Divisions, one each at Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Sriganganagar and Barmer with 21 Customs Ranges.

    Thereafter, a new Customs Range was created at Udaipur on 10.10.1992. At present, 3 ICDs [viz. Thar, CONCOR and RAJSICO] at Jodhpur, One ICD at Bhilwara, One ICD at Kota , One ICD at Bhiwadi , five Customs Divisions and 14 Ranges are functioning.
